1. What should I be aware of when a patient is inadvertently switched from a capsule to a tablet formulation?

Food has complex effects on tizanidine pharmacokinetics, which differ between tablet and capsule formulations.2,5 These pharmacokinetic differences may result in clinically significant differences when:

  • Switching administration of the tablet between the fed or fasted state2
  • Switching administration of Zanaflex Capsules® (tizanidine hydrochloride) between the fed or fasted state2
  • Switching between Zanaflex Capsules® (tizanidine hydrochloride) and the tablets in the fed state2
  • Switching between intact Zanaflex Capsules® (tizanidine hydrochloride) and sprinkling the contents on applesauce2

These changes may result in an increase in adverse events or a change in the onset of activity depending on the nature of the switch.2,5 Please click here for further information.
